The Canadian Council of Churches was organized in 1944. Its basic purpose is to provide the churches with an agency for conference and consultation and for such common planning and common action as they desire to undertake. It encourages ecumenical understanding and action throughout Canada through local councils of churches. It also relates to the World Council of Churches and other agencies serving the worldwide ecumenical movement.
The Council has a Governing Board which meets semi-annually and an Executive Committee. Program is administered through two commissions: Faith and Witness, Justice and Peace, as well as several reference groups.
