Founded April 6, 1830, by Joseph Smith, Jr., the church was reorganized under the leadership of the founder’s son, Joseph Smith III, in 1860. The Church is established in nearly 50 countries including the United States and Canada, with nearly a quarter of a million members. A world conference is held every three years in Independence, Missouri. The current president is Stephen M. Veazey.
