The Research Center is a department of the Glenmary Home Missioners, a Catholic society of priests and brothers. The Center was established in 1966 to serve the rural research needs of the Catholic Church in the United States. The Glenmary Research Center published the 2000 Religious Congregations and Membership Study as well as previous studies in 1971, 1980 and 1990. The research center was also responsible for collecting the Catholic data included in the past studies and is collecting the Catholic data for the 2010 study, which will be published in 2012. The Religious Congregations and Membership Study contains the most complete data available on U.S. religious affiliation.
