Volunteers of America is a Christian Church that answers God's call to transform the world through a ministry of service that feeds, clothes, shelters and demonstrates to all people that they are beloved children of God. As part of that ministry, Volunteers of America provides local human service programs and opportunities for individual and community involvement through local affiliate offices and the National Services Housing and Health Care Division. Volunteers of America has become the largest non profit provider of housing (affordable/senior/homeless shelters) in the US.
Founded in 1896 by Christian social reformers Ballington and Maud Booth, Volunteers of America provides over 100 different types of programs and services in more than 400 communities nationwide. Programs include services for abused and neglected children, youth at risk, the elderly, people with disabilities, homeless individuals and families, and many others. It also provides a national Prison After-Care program that engages local congregations of all denominations as mentors to newly released prisoners. It employs 16,000 individuals whose work is assisted by over 90,000 committed volunteers.
